Eat My Words hits the cool client jackpot

IStock_000003605992XSmall Eat My Words has so many fun new clients that we have barely been able to catch our breath since Memorial Day. Some of the cool things we're naming are an uber-cool PR firm, a tasty new vodka, a modern day fortune teller (so to speak), a new tuna sub-brand for Star-kist, a yummy new cracker for Frito-Lay, a sizzling new menu item for Long John Silvers, an exotic adventure travel business, and shoes, shoes, and more shoes. Plus we're re-branding an as-seen-on-HGTV interior design firm with a new name, tagline and the first of many book titles. And we are helping SIGG launch a top-secret new product. I'll let you know when I can let the cat out of the bottle.

What's Cooking

E1185852202 We have a lot of food on our plates right now including naming healthy snacks for kids and two new Star-kist products which we have to keep under wraps for now. Sorry, Charlie. About 60% of our current naming gigs are for products that don't make you fat or drunk - like software, schools, and sportswear. We're doing name explorations for sound pioneer THX, Knowledge Learning Corporation, a luxury goods retailer, and lots of Web 2.0 start-ups. We'll let you know when we can let the monkey out of the bag.

Because we don't do stale names... Frito-Lay taps EMW

E1184005230 As vending machine junkies, we were floored when Frito-Lay called us out of the blue. The salty snack giant was attracted to our whimsical style and fresh approach to naming, which is a great fit for their new flavors and products. With brands like Cheetos, Doritos, and Tostitos, Frito-Lay is the snack jackpot and we're thrilled to have them as a client. Of course our projects are super top secret, but we'll let you know when we can let the cat out of the potato chip bag.

New client: Sydney Opera House

1000011_img_2 We just finished a top secret naming gig for the prestigious Sydney Opera House. When it's over and the fat lady sings, we'll let you know all about it. But until then, our lips are sealed. Here's a photo of one of the friends I made when I spent a year down under.

New Kids on the Block

Eat My Words has 4 new clients with 5 super cool new naming projects targeted at kids. Lots of fun for us, especially when we get paid to use words like Goo and taste product samples in yummy kid flavors.

New Names for 2 Restaurant Chains

Images1We've been hired to rename a well-known restaurant chain as well as dream up a name for a brand new one. And we've had the extreme pleasure of working with the fabulously talented Michael Llewellyn-Williams of BrandMechanics on both fun assignments. (I got to fly out of the country with Michael for one of them!) Like everything else we do, we have to keep the details of these projects under our chef hats until they are ready to come out of the oven. We'll let you know when they're fully baked...

Jelly Belly Naming Gig - Yum!

Images I've been chasing Jelly Belly for the past year, trying to get a bite of their naming biz. (Always a good excuse to hang out at their booth at the Fancy Food Show, and  my advertising students loved going on a field trip to their factory in Fairfield.) All that persistence paid off and we've been asked to help generate some new product names for them. Pinch me.

Our Household Name Makes a Clean Sweep

RosiecartoonNo less than 48 hours after my Robot-naming marathon, (remember Botabing?), Sherry and I landed another robot naming project - this time from Home Robots in Mountain View, CA who needed a new name for their company and furturistic product. Fast forward three weeks...  they selected incredibly cool names. We can't let the cat out of the vacuum cleaner bag until September when they launch (and we quadruple our fees). Thanks to Steve Manning at Igor for giving us the ammo to help the client evaluate and select the best name. And to Cori Constantine and Anthony Shore of Landor, for being our cheerleaders.

New client: Crocs!

16 In case you're been under a rock, Crocs are the funky, super comfy shoes that have become international phenomenon. So you can imagine how thrilled I was when they called me from Colorado, gushed about our clever work, and hired us on the spot. I still don't know who to thank, so if you're the person who told Crocs about us, please let me know so we can reward you handsomely.

New Client: Anthem

Picture_3_2 Even with my adorable pink business cards, Eat My Words mints, witty emails, and repeated endorsements from Toby Sudduth and Rob Desino, getting my foot in the door at Anthem took more than a year. When they finally did call with a gig a few months ago, it was to write packaging copy for sanitary pads. We held out for something food related, and sure enough, they called with a juicy Safeway project.  Now I can write off all my groceries.
